Water Sports

For those that on the top of a holiday in the name of relaxation are interested in keeping up their health, a ‘splash' into the water sports of the Lazio region is a must.

The sheet of water of the lake of Bracciano links since decennials to the disciplines of sailing and windsurf. The lake regularly hosts international competitive events of the two disciplines and for amateurs provides a perfect environment to try these sports in the most convenient and easier conditions of light and constant wind and calm waters.

Equally renowned are the Mediterranean seawaters around Santa Marinella, Santa Severa and Civitavecchia that offer different possibilities of sailing and windsurfing with strong winds from all directions. The Mediterranean temperature during the whole year offers additional value to these locations allowing practicing the sport without excessive sacrifices.

It is not by chance then that these areas are rich of resources, offering a wide range of options for those that want to prove themselves with these disciplines at the competitive or amateur levels as well as for those that want to learn from scratch or just to be spectators of quality competitions. For the less ‘conservatives' are also to be flagged the various clubs dedicated to derived disciplines such as kytesurfing.

Santa Marinella and Civitavecchia are also traditional places for diving practice, where a rich fauna, gullies and wreckages makes an immersion in these waters a must between practitioners. For the hardcore divers that, however, cannot sever the sport from the thirst for culture, it is advised an immersion in the lake of Bolsena where numerous Etruscan and Roman ruins surface on the seabed.

The lake of Bolsena offers a unique stage for the canoeing activities (and in its surroundings is also possible to try similar disciplines such as canyoning). The possibility to reach paddling the two magnificent islands of at the centre of the lake is the perfect climax of a vibrant holiday.
